Sleek 60s patterns, oversize tailored coats, wools cut without a seam in sight; Céline delivered them all with excellent taste. The women were prim and tailored, but here and there the unexpected was thrown in; gigantic pockets, a fur dress loosely cut at the hips, and metal rings with jade balls swinging around the models’ wrists. Was Céline walking us into a pristinely dressed future? Yet, there was also something tribal in the bareness and unfinished hems. Few embellishments were seen and the only prints were the straight lines of plaid. What was the inspiration? Were we walking through the past or the future? Closing the show was the same model that had opened it, wearing a navy version of the white outfit she first walked out in. With that said, I’ll let you judge what it all means.
