A new study from a team of American medics has provided another piece of evidence towards the benefits of gastric bypass surgery on obese patients and their general health, ABC reported.

Doctors at the Cleveland Clinic examined 60 diabetics who were divided into three groups. The first group underwent a gastric bypass, the second were given a gastric sleeve, a different version of bypass surgery, and the last group were treated with medicine only. Results showed that patients from the first group were significantly more likely to have their pancreas restored to an almost normal state – meaning that it could create insulin again. Several months after the procedure, many patients’ diabetes was in remission, the study found.

According to Dr Sangeeta Kashyap from the Cleveland Clinic, who took part in the research, many of those people were at serious risk because of their obesity and the obesity-related conditions…
