Long gone are the days of paying hundreds of dollars for designer prescription glasses to make a statement. Warby Parker has changed the dynamic of the traditional eyeglass industry by offering customers prescription eyewear starting at $95.

The business began as an e-commerce eyeglass website, started by four close friends at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. The brand was designed “to serve people who are sick and tired of paying for glasses,” says co-founder Neil Blumenthal. Warby Parker stresses the importance of customer service, allowing customers to order up to five frames to try on before purchasing. Recently, J.Crew’s CEO Mickey Drexler has invested in the promising startup. With the “merchant prince” of America on their side, Warby Parker can make a statement with even the simplest eyeglasses.
