Potato and Cheese Breakfast Casserole

1 (32 ounce) package frozen bite-sized potato nuggets (such as Tater Tots®)

1 lb. ground sausage

1/2 lg. onion, chopped

2 T. chili powder

1 T. dried basil

2 cloves garlic, minced

12 eggs

3/4 c. heavy whipping cream (2% also works)

2 t. salt

1 t. ground black pepper, or to taste (opt.)

2 c. shredded sharp Cheddar cheese


Preheat an oven to 450º F.

Arrange potato nuggets in a single layer on a baking sheet. (See note # 1.)

Bake in the preheated oven until potato nuggets are partially cooked, 12 to 15 minutes. Remove from oven.

Reduce oven temperature to 375º F. Spray a 9×13-inch casserole dish with cooking spray.
